  • What is 'plated' jewellery?
Gold plating is a process whereby a piece of jewellery is covered in a layer of real 18ct gold using electroplating. This layer is only 1-2 microns thick and is not a permanent layer. Factors like how often we wear a piece of jewellery, products that we use and even the ph of our skin can effect the longevity of the plating. Some of our jewellery is available with 18ct yellow or rose gold plating. It is often useful to enhance the appearance of a piece or as a cheaper option than solid gold, but please note that it is not permanent and we cannot be held responsible for how long it lasts as this is influenced by factors outside of our control.
  • Repairs
We take the utmost care to ensure that all our jewellery is made to the highest standards. Jewellery is delicate by nature though and sometimes it gets damaged with our busy lifestyles. Our jewellery comes with a 3 month guarantee, we will repair any jewellery that breaks within this guarantee for you free of charge. Anytime thereafter repairs will be charged at an hourly rate We cannot be held responsible for the damage of chains as these are delicate by nature and should be treated accordingly with care. Replacement chains can be quoted for and ordered for the clients account.
  • How long does my order take?
Please note that we are a very small studio and we like to take the time to make sure your order is made to our high standards of production. Please allow 10-15 working days for smaller website orders from date of payment. Larger more intricate orders may take longer, please be patient as we put all the love and care into your bespoke piece. • How does ring sizing work?
Finger sizes in South Africa are measured on a scale using the alphabet, A-Z with half sizes in between each letter. Eg, A, A 1/2, B B1/2 etc. The best way to get an accurate finger size is to make an appointment with us so we can discuss which finger you would like to wear your ring on and we can take an accurate measurement from there. If you cannot get to us, the next best option is to visit a jeweller in your closest mall and ask them to measure it for you with their special ring sizing tool. If you can’t get to a store then the best way to do it from home is to cut a strip of carboard about the width and thickness that you would like your ring to be and wrap it around the finger you want to measure. Use a marker and at the spot where the cardboard overlaps make a mark on both pieces. Take the cardboard and lay it flat along the edge of a ruler, measuring from pen mark to pen mark. This will give you the inner circumference for the ring. We can use this measurement and convert it to the corresponding letter size.. If you are feeling confused or overwhelmed trying to figure out your proper size please email us here so we can assist you as best we can. Disclaimer: we unfortunately cannot be held responsible for sizes which are taken incorrectly; rings will be made to the size given and any adjustments made after the fact will be charged for. To maintain the structural integrity of the ring some rings may not be able to be resized, or may not be able to be sized more than a few sizes up or down.
  • How do I care for my jewellery?
The good news is, if you're already curious about how to care for your jewellery it means you are on the right path to making your special pieces last a lifetime! Jewellery care is very important, both for the longevity of the piece as well as for your enjoyment. We're here to guide you in keeping your stones and metals shiny and protected. It's always a good idea to remove your jewellery if you are doing anything strenous, like going to the gym, weightlifting, hiking, rock climbing, swimming etc. Jewellery can be damaged or bent out of shape if it comes into contact with solid or heavy objects. If a ring bends awkwardly and you have gemstones in your ring the settings can be damaged and you are at risk of losing your precious stones as well as a possible injury to yourself, so rather remove your jewellery and keep it somewhere safe while your are busy. Chemicals from cleaning products and swimming pools can also damage your jewellery. Either by discolouring it or even weakening the metal's crystal structure, thereby making it brittle. This can be especially true of chemicals such as bleach and chlorine. If you have jewellery that is plated, rough wear, chemicals and our body's natural ph levels can also affect how long this coating can last. To clean your jewellery we recommend a special jewellery polishing cloth, these are embedded with a polishing compound and will help to remove tarnish and fingerprints from your jewellery. You can email us to order one of these polishing cloths. For more tips on how to clean your jewellery email us at info@tuesdayschildjewellery.com so we can guide you in the best practices for cleaning your specific jewellery pieces.
